If you want to start your New Year by learning about film and/or how to shoot movies or want to brush up on your filmmaker knowledge, Ryan Connolly from Film Riot has you covered with 10 of his favorite filmmaker resources. His list covers resources for everything from gore makeup and SFX, cinematography, and lighting to After Effects and color correction. Check out the full list below.

1) Kiana Jones SFX

2) FilmmakerIQ

-The website seems to be offline right now so here is their vimeo: http://vimeo.com/filmmakeriq

3) Cinematographer Style Documentary

4) Indie Filmmaker: Lighting Tutorial and Samples

5) Video Copilot

7) The Art of Color Correction

8) SoundWorks Collection

9) Hurlbut Visuals

10) Virtual Lighting Studio

I’ve run through the basic After Effects tutorials more than a few times on Video Copilot and frequent Hurlbut Visuals on a regular basis. I’ll be checking out the rest of the list very soon, and am especially looking forward to playing around in the Virtual Lighting Studio to test out some lighting setups I’ve come across recently.

Film Riot is also very modest to have not put their own YouTube channel on this list. I’ve followed Ryan and his Film Riot family since their start some five years ago and they live consistently in my top three resources for entertainment and filmmaker knowledge. If you haven’t seen Film Riot or any of the other shows Ryan (Triune Films) produces, I highly recommend taking a look and clicking that subscribe button on Film Riot’s YouTube Channel.

What are some of your favorite filmmaker resources? Share them below and they might find their way to a Hawaii Shoots resources page in the near future.
